Since the beginning of the year, Kellie and I have been asking ourselves the question, what’s next? It seems like a simple enough question, which it is, but the answer is not quite as simple!
A few days ago, Kellie wrote about the Evolution of a Blog which included a bit of history on our relationship. But for both of us, we started blogging individually quite some time before we started blogging together. However, I think we would both agree that blogging together has been the most successful iteration to date.
For me, blogging started as a private personal journal (the original purpose of a blog). Later I tried a couple of different iterations of knitting/teaching blogs that I was never consistent on posting. Then I got the wild idea of accountability through shared responsibility. It still took a bit before Kellie and I found our rhythm, but working together definitely made a difference.
Just over two years ago, we were ready to take our relationship to the next level and become formal business partners. This was a huge step for me as I had a business partner in the past and knew that those relationships can be extremely challenging. But I jumped anyway and will always be glad that I did.
As a lawyer friend once shared with me, don’t ever go into business with someone you wouldn’t marry. Ultimately we realized that I am enough like Eric and Kellie is enough like Arlis that we really could be married! And that is probably why it has worked so well.
But with the closing of EduKnit, that simple question just kept raising its head… what’s next?
Even while we were both actively engaged in the business of Two Sides – Two Points, we were both also busy in other ventures as well. Kellie was becoming more involved in her world of photography while I continued to pursue my calling around teaching, consulting, and leadership.
So even though we both still love teaching and our interaction with knitters, the question still echos… what’s next?
As days turned into weeks and weeks into months, we have come to realize that this blog and our business partnership is no longer serving in the way it once was. Blogs are being replaced by YouTube channels and although Ravelry continues to have a strong influence, we have struggled to gain any traction.
So What’s Next?
Honestly, I don’t think either of us can say for sure, but we both agree that the only way we will have time to discover our next path is allocate time, energy and possibly funds to the process. As such, we are winding down Two Sides – Two Points.
